Musée d'Orsay - The music of colors

Little known outside Norway, Harriet Backer was nevertheless her country's most famous female painter of the late 19th century. Renowned for her mastery of rich, luminous colors, she developed a unique style fusing interior scenes with plein-air painting. 

From September 24, 2024 to January 12, 2025, discover the first retrospective in France devoted to Harriet Backer. This exhibition is in line with the Musée d'Orsay's policy of going beyond the great names of the art world to highlight lesser-known artists who are essential to understanding the artistic developments of the late 19th century. Norway occupies a special place in the exhibition, given the vitality of its art scene and the close links between its artists and the Parisian avant-garde. The exhibition, initiated by the National Museum in Oslo and the Kode Bergen Art Museum, is organized in collaboration with the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

The Musée d'Orsay is open from Tuesday to Sunday. 

To get there from the Hôtel du Jeu de Paume, take the 87 bus from Pont de La Tournelle in the direction of Valéry Giscard D'Estaing and get off at Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. Walk 3 minutes and you're there !
