Shocking ! Les mondes surréalistes d'Elsa Schiaparelli
Just off the Ile Saint Louis, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is showing an exhibition on the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli until 22 January 2023: "Shocking! The surreal worlds of Elsa Schiaparelli".
As soon as you arrive you are immersed in the world of the talented designer. No less than 520 works are on display throughout the rooms. Sketches, jewellery, sculptures, photos of the artist, posters and of course dresses. Elsa Schiaparelli's talent is on display in all its forms and we marvel at each object. More than a fashion designer, Elsa Schiaparelli is an artist and her creations are true works of art.
We find here great classics, the lobster dress, the result of a collaboration with Salvador Dali, the hat shoe, the gloves with nails, but also much more recent outfits seen on the red carpets like the dress worn by Bella Hadid in Cannes.
Her original, surprising style was inspired by the artists of the Parisian avant-garde milieu of the 1920s and 1930s that she frequented. Later, it was she who inspired the great designers who paid tribute to her: Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa, John Galliano, Christian Lacroix.
