The first Dennis Morris retrospective in France
The Maison Européenne de la Photographie presents Music + Life, a retrospective of British photographer Dennis Morris never before seen in France. The exhibition highlights an impressive selection of his most iconic photographs, offering an immersion into the England of the 70s and 80s, through the eye of an artist who captured some of the biggest names in music. Among the works on display are portraits of Bob Marley, striking images of the Sex Pistols, and shots of reggae pioneers such as Lee “Scratch” Perry and The Abyssinians. These photos became visual symbols of popular culture, the musical counterculture and the emergence of new social identities.
Morris was not just a photographer, but a privileged witness to the musical and social evolution of the time. His portraits go beyond simply capturing a moment: they reveal an intimate relationship with his subjects.
This exhibition doesn't just show icons; it also tells the story of an era, a rebellious youth and a world in full cultural and social turmoil. Thanks to his rare and privileged access, Dennis Morris offers us a unique perspective on this vibrant era of British music, fashion and identity.
From the Hôtel du Jeu de Paume, walk along rue Saint-Louis towards rue de Rivoli, then head for Pont Marie metro station (line 7). Take the line towards La Courneuve - 8 Mai 1945 and get off at Pyramides station after two stops. From there, all you have to do is walk for about 5 minutes. This is a great opportunity to discover a fascinating retrospective of Dennis Morris, in the heart of Paris's Marais district.
