The Musée des Moulages at Hôpital Saint-Louis
The Musée des Moulages de l'Hôpital Saint-Louis (AP-HP) houses over 4,900 strikingly realistic medical waxes depicting dermatological diseases from the 19th and 20th centuries. Listed as a Monument Historique, this collection was initiated by Jules Baretta, a craftsman turned medical molder, who produced over 3,000 casts between 1865 and 1913.
The museum features casts of various ailments. The tour begins with a portrait gallery of leading dermatologists, and continues in a spectacular room organized like a natural history museum.
Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm, the museum is accessible by appointment only (by e-mail or telephone), and is forbidden to children under 12 due to the impressive nature of some of the works. Admission is €7 full price and €4 for students.
