The Panthéon

The Panthéon, located in the heart of the Latin Quarter on the Sainte-Geneviève hill, is one of the most iconic monuments in Paris. Built in the 18th century by architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot, this neoclassical masterpiece is both a place of remembrance and a tribute to the great figures who shaped France’s history.

The Panthéon offers various experiences for its visitors. You can first explore the majestic nave, adorned with frescoes depicting the story of Sainte-Geneviève, as well as the crypt where many illustrious figures rest. To learn more, free guided tours are organized daily (often at 2:30 PM or 3:30 PM). These tours provide a fascinating insight into the history and architecture of the monument.

If you’re visiting between April and October, don’t miss the access to the panoramic view from the colonnade. At 35 meters high, the view over Paris is breathtaking, offering a 360° perspective of the city’s rooftops and its iconic landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, and Sacré-Cœur.

If you are staying at the Hôtel du Jeu de Paume, located on Île Saint-Louis, getting to the Panthéon is easy. You can choose a pleasant 20-minute walk through the Latin Quarter, passing charming streets and the Luxembourg Gardens.

If you prefer public transportation, head to Sully - Morland station (line 7), just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Take the metro towards Villejuif - Louis Aragon or Mairie d’Ivry, and get off at Place Monge station. From there, a 10-minute walk will lead you straight to the Panthéon.
