The saga of the grands magasins

From November 6, 2024 to April 6, 2025, the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine offers a captivating journey through the history of department stores. Immerse yourself in their evolution, from their appearance in the 19th century to their impact on commerce, architecture and society today.

The exhibition reveals the major role played by department stores in the transformation of consumer habits and urban planning, with an international perspective. Enjoy interactive installations and an itinerary that retraces the major stages of these “temples of consumption”.

The exhibition “La Saga des Grands Magasins” will be held at the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, located at the entrance to the Trocadéro in Paris. Before you go, check the official website for opening times.

Admission is €9 full price and €6 concessions. Online booking is strongly recommended to guarantee your place and avoid queues. 

To get there, take metro line 1 at Saint-Paul towards La Défense, get off at Charles de Gaulle - Étoile. Take metro line 6 to Nation and stop at Trocadéro. Walk 2 minutes and you're there !
